Dragonflies in the night sky near the Orinoco River in Puerto Carreño, Colombia. At more than 1,300 miles, the river is one of the longest in South America, running mostly through Venezuela but also partly through Colombia and into the Atlantic Ocean. Its ecosystem includes flooded grasslands, savannas, and tropical rainforests, and is home to a diverse group of wildlife—from flamingos and otters to thousands of different bird and fish species.
