November 5, 2026 | Salt From Above | Nat Geo Photo of the Day
Photographer Aya Okawa was drawn to the bright colors and geometric patterns of these salt ponds in San Diego, California. They’re part of a historic salt plant that has operated in various forms since the late 1800s. The ponds’ striking colors can change as a result of fluctuations in salinity and wind, creating an ever-shifting landscape that Okawa captures from the air.
