November 6, 2026 | Across the Distance | Nat Geo Photo of the Day
After immigrating from Moscow to the United States with her mother, photographer Sasha Arutyunova began using her camera to understand how migration and distance had transformed her family. Her ongoing series Wind and Other Dangers, photographed across Russia, Armenia, and the United States since 2008, explores family, intimacy, identity, and belonging across continents. This image, Balcony, Pompano Beach, is part of the series, now on view at Chicago’s Filter Space through November 21.
