Builders work on construction of the South-North Water Transfer Project in the Shandong Province in China. Launched in 2002 with completion expected in 2050, the project's goal is to move trillions of gallons of water each year from the Yangtze River Basin in the south to the Yellow River Basin in the north. The relocation of the water is expected to help with both agricultural growth and domestic water supply in the dry northern region of the country—parts of which are also densely populated.
