Tomato pickers begin work early in the morning to avoid the day’s worst heat in Los Baños, California, in the San Joaquin Valley. As temperatures continue to rise, extreme heat is expected to make outdoor agricultural work increasingly dangerous, but photographer Karla Gachet says many workers paid by the bucket may push through breaks to increase their earnings.
