Like One of His Own

“If someone stops and checks a kangaroo that has been struck by a vehicle, sometimes a joey can be found still alive in their dead or injured mother's pouch,” writes Your Shot member Douglas Gimesy. “If old enough and treated appropriately, some can be rescued and cared for by dedicated people, such as these Kangaroo Island residents.” This family looks after the joeys in their home until the young kangaroos are healthy and old enough to be relocated in the wild—even bottle-feeding them as if they were children of their own.
