Pool Days
A mother and daughter relax in a pool on their hotel rooftop in Bali, Indonesia. While his family enjoyed the water, Your Shot member Victor Djaja tried to capture the scene, imagining that they were swimming in the ocean. He used a wide-angle lens at a low angle to create an illusion of depth in the five-foot pool, filling the frame with the sky to add drama. For photo editor Sherry Bruckbacher, who chose this image for the final story in a Your Shot assignment, the technique worked. “This image exemplifies the power of simplicity in composition,” she writes.
