The Promotion

Chief Operations Specialist Nate Klimis has been in the United States Navy for 18 years. In this photo, he holds back tears as a chief petty officer cover is placed on his head in a promotion ceremony on the USS Bataan. He told Your Shot photographer Matthew Callahan that no chief reaches that rank without the help of others. “When we first come into the Navy," he said, "a lot of us don’t know what it means to hold the weight of the anchor.” This photo was submitted to Your Shot, our photo community on Instagram.
