New Year Celebration, Thailand

This Month in Photo of the Day: Your Photos

In Thailand, people celebrate Songkran as the traditional New Year’s Day. The water splashed is meant as a symbol of washing all of the bad away and traditionally to pay respects to elders, including family members, friends, neighbors, and monks.

What Makes This a Photo of the Day? I really like seeing the movement of the revelers and the arcs of water being thrown from this vantage point—a combination of playfulness and grace. —Alexa Keefe, Photo of the Day editor
