In the Clouds

As the sun sets on San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, a Pacific coast fog rolls in, mingling with low clouds to submerge the iconic structure, says photographer Michael Perry. Tourists and locals alike drive along the city’s trademark hillsides, hoping to capture the moment for themselves.

This photo and caption were submitted to the 2014 National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest. Winners will be announced July 31.
