A coastal brown bear surrounds a school of sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) in the Alaska Peninsula. Each year, these fish journey thousands of miles from the Pacific Ocean to the freshwaters of Alaska. They are constantly leaping above water during the journey, where the bears wait to catch them. Photographer Mike Rigney told National Geographic it was "easily one of the most beautiful natural displays I've ever seen."
