PhotographyYour Shot Photos of the Week

Your best photos of the week, September 14, 2018

Each week, our editors choose stunning photos submitted by members of Your Shot, National Geographic's photo community.

Photography at its core is about story-telling and sharing a view for others to see. Perhaps the whole story might not be visible in the photograph and we must turn to a caption or an artist statement to have a little more context to the story.

My curiosity often leads me down a rabbit-hole of searches stemmed from the stories shared by our community photographers. I learn about culture, history, animal behavior, current events and countless other topics around the world through our photographers.

There is always a robust variety in photography being shared in the Your Shot photo community. I never cease to be impressed by the community’s hunger to pick up their camera and freeze time to share with us. This week, I found myself looking at images of anything from long exposure night skies to honoring the anniversary of September 11.

Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas looks at daily uploads from Your Shot, starting each day by sifting thousands of photographs. This series is a selection of her favorites from the past week.
