Inspiration can be found anywhere and anytime. It doesn’t always stem from a creative activity, either. Inspiration can strike while you’re watching the World Cup semifinals or in the middle of a task at work. If you don’t write the idea down immediately, you’ll forget it. I’m inspired daily by the Your Shot community in subtle ways that fluctuate day to day. But I always end the week motivated to look at a scene differently the next time I pick up a camera.
This week, I was inspired by the way Your Shot photographers found small moments in bigger scenes—like Ritesh Ghosh’s detail from a pride walk in Kolkata, India, or Matt Vidler’s scene of a surfer facing a huge crashing wave. Isadora Tricerri’s portrait of Izabel made me remember how much I love color. All 15 of these photos have a spark of genius in them, whether the photographer thoughtfully approached their composition to pack a punch or stumbled across a moment and made the most of it.
This series aims to serve as a weekly inspiration. I hope it motivates you to make some new pictures over the weekend with a refreshed mind-set. I’ve always loved observing smaller moments. This weekend I’ll be looking out for them, thanks to inspiration from the Your Shot community this week.
