Sochi Winter Olympics: Stunning Photos From Your Shot Members

National Geographic Your Shot members capture photos from the Sochi Winter Olympics.

Thousands of people traveled to Sochi for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games. During the competition, international visitors toured the local area and took photographs of the Olympic events. Here are a few snapshots from Sochi submitted by members of the National Geographic Your Shot community.

North American Your Shot member Tony V. captured this photo of the opening ceremony (above) from his seat inside Fisht Olympic Stadium.

More than 3,000 performers took to the ice for the inaugural extravaganza.

This photo of a cell-phone snapshot at the Olympic cauldron was taken a week after the opening ceremony by Your Shot user Mehmet Fatih Yaldiz. Yaldiz is a civil engineer who helped construct hotel buildings for the Olympics. He attended several events and also took photos of the area during his visit.

Just outside the Olympic Park, Your Shot member Robert Mitchell captured this black-and-white photo of people swimming in the Black Sea. The weather was warm when this photo was taken on February 15. According to Mitchell, though the seawater "was still freezing, the locals here take advantage of any inviting sunshine."

Mitchell is originally from Australia. He's working in Sochi as an Olympic television broadcaster but was able to escape the press room to capture this image.

Live music fills the Olympic Park as a line of drummers marches around Medals Plaza. Organizers scheduled performances to give the audience a taste of traditional Russian culture. Your Shot member Tony V. snapped this drumline on February 16.

These snow-capped trees can be seen from the finish line of the men's giant slalom at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. U.S. skier Ted Ligety won that event on February 19. Your Shot user Tony V. took this photo on the same day.

A highly competitive country in winter sports, Canada won more gold medals than any other country when it hosted the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver. Your Shot member Mehmet Fatih Yaldiz captured Canadian fans hoping for a similar outcome in Sochi on February 9.

Your Shot member Elena Orlova is a journalism student completing an internship at the Sochi Olympic Games. She took this photo of

Canadian figure skaters Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers at Fisht Stadium on February 9 during the free skate of the pairs competition. Lawrence and Swiegers finished in 14th place.

The Olympic Winter Games will end on Sunday, but there's still time to submit your Olympic photos. Check out the new and improved Your Shot website, where you can share photos, take part in assignments, lend your voice to stories, and connect with fellow photographers from around the globe.
