Sure, William and Kate might be the royal couple so far this century, but in 1525, Martin and Kate stole the royal spotlight in Lutherstadt Wittenberg (above), just 90 minutes south of Berlin. On June 13, 486 years ago, former monk Martin Luther (known for starting the Reformation) wed former nun Katharina von Bora, and their nuptials are celebrated each year during a three-day festival in Luther County. Visit between June 17-19 for a wedding re-enactment, music, food, street entertainment, and more. Plus, learn about the Luther Decade (2008-2017), which celebrates 500 years of the Reformation.
