"Neist Point Lighthouse in Isle of Skye, Scotland just before sunrise. Mountains of Uist in the North Atlantic Ocean can be seen ahead in the right. Shooting this at sub-zero temp with super cold wind was not not easy. Neist Point was always a must visit place for me. Driving thousands of kilometers around Scotland for 3 days and to reach Neist Point was the highlight of an awesome Road trip. Standing on the cliff, I had a sense of awe & achievement that anything is possible for an adventurer."

Or, one of yours. Look at some of our editor’s favorite submissions so far, then send your own best shot.

Stunning, engaging, inspiring—these are just some of the factors we look for when choosing a cover photo for National Geographic Traveler magazine. Whether it’s from a surprising location or iconic destination, we are looking for images with a sense of place, as well as specific design factors like space for text. We have been discussing these nuances with our photo community, Your Shot, as we search for our next great cover.

In this assignment—free and open for anyone to participate—we encourage you to share an image and story from The Trip That Changed Your Life. Find inspiration in a few of our favorite submissions so far, and submit your own before March 5, 2018 for a chance to be a cover star!
