Bus2Antarctica: And He’s Off!

Andrew Evans woke up bright and early on this new year’s day and stood outside the bus stop in front of National Geographic headquarters, where he planned to begin his 10-week, 10,000 mile journey to Antarctica. A group of family and friends (carrying cardboard penguin cut-outs) came to see him off, including Traveler editor Keith Bellows, who presented Evans with the official National Geographic Society flag, carried by explorers for over 120 years. “It’s just my size,” Evans said, and tucked it into his pack. Then, at 11:26 a.m., right on schedule, the S2 Metrobus pulled up and he hopped on, the adventure begun.
