- British explorer Ed Stafford has become the first person to hike the entire length of the Amazon, completing a 4,000-mile journey that began on April 2, 2008 at the river’s source in Peru. Stafford, who was accompanied by Peruvian forestry worker Gadiel “Cho” Sanchez Rivera for the majority of the trip, set out on the trek to raise awareness about the disappearing rainforest. The pair reached Maruda Beach in Brazil on Monday, officially ending the record-setting odyssey. Check out Stafford’s blog here. [CNN]
