  • The ninth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks will be commemorated this Saturday with the return of the “Tribute of Light”double light installation at West and Morris Streets. Eighty-eight searchlights make the monument visible from spots all over the city, including the Staten Island Ferry. [Jaunted]
  • Sleep out on the Mississippi this weekend at Mud Island River Park, located right in the Mississippi River, and just across the bridge from downtown Memphis. The park closes for the season in October, making this their second to last camp-out of the year (just make sure you reserve a spot). The park provides everything from the tent to the marshmallows, including dinner, breakfast, recreational activities and live entertainment. The only thing you need to pack is a sleeping bag.
  • And if camping by the mighty Mississippi isn’t enough to make you feel small – then check out the new photo essay, 18 Places to Feel Dwarfed by Nature, put together by Matador Trips co-editor Hal Amen. It appears Norwegians aren’t too afraid of heights.
