Foodie Challenge Featured Winner: Burger

Well, here it is: the last (but not least!) of our Foodie Challenge photo contest winners.

We’ve seen some great pictures from all over the world–Georgia, Vienna, France, China–but this final photo was taken closer to home. Bill Harner snapped this image of an iconic U.S. meal after a day at the Virginia Safari Park in Natural Bridge, Virginia.

Bill tells about his Americana-inspired burger and a great little diner after the jump…

About the photo:

“We were getting ready to hop on the interstate and drive home when we looked up the road and saw the Pink Cadillac Diner.  It looked like a fun place so in we went. I was immediately struck by the fun and funky decor. Almost all of the diner’s decor was dedicated to Elvis.

“I’m game for trying anything food-wise (smoked eel is a personal favorite, it’s the bacon of the sea) but there wasn’t anything unusual on the menu, so I decided to go with the signature burger of the joint, the “Elvis Burger”.

“What I like about the photo is how perfect the burger looks.  It’s not squished and nasty looking. It looks like a little sculpture of tastiness, just for me. I also like that the colors in the frame don’t detract from the photo. They actually add a little bit of the ambiance and a sense of place to the photo.”

Thanks to everyone for submitting photos and helping us choose the winners for our Foodie Challenge!
