Strange Planet: Watermelon Skiing

You haven’t lived until you’ve tried watermelon skiing. At least that’s what our friends over at Nothing to Do With Arbroath have to say about this wacky watermelon sport made popular in Chinchilla, Australia. Held every two years, the Chinchilla Melon Festival is four fun-filled days of melon activities including the headline event: watermelon skiing. Watch this video as brave participants–wearing melons for skis–try to retain their balance as they’re pulled down a rind-splattered slip-n-slide.

The 2011 Chinchilla Melon Festival has concluded, but you can book your Aussie adventure for February 2013.
