Volunteer to Build a Trail This Summer

If you’re planning to hit some hiking trails this summer, why not sign up to build a new one as a volunteer? This June near Leadville, Colorado, volunteers will make way for a non-motorized route from Mt. Elbert to Monarch Pass on the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail. The 3,000 mile-long trail extends from Mexico to Canada.

Several projects are underway through September. Volunteers don’t need any prior experience; they’ll work alongside professionals and enjoy meals prepared by award winning crew chefs, not to mention the views, the hiking, fishing, and other recreational activities.

In addition to Colorado, this summer’s projects will also take place in New Mexico, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. The Continental Divide Trail Alliance has managed and protected the trail since 1995 and they place nearly 500 volunteers on various jobs each year.
