Today’s Pic: Glacier Turns 100

Glacier National Park is celebrating its 100th anniversary today, and hosted a rededication ceremony this morning. A century ago, it was the tenth park added to the burgeoning National Park System, and today it’s one of the most visited parks in the country. Can’t get there yourself? Pick up a copy of the new book 100 Years 100 Stories: A View Inside Glacier National Park, which collects the anecdotes, poems, and photos from “100 people whose lives have been enriched and who have been inspired by the grandeur and beauty of Glacier National Park.” Or take a virtual eTour of the park’s history museum to learn more about the building of Going-to-the-Sun-Road. You can also follow along with the events as they happen today at the park’s Twitter feed: @GlacierNPS.

For more on Glacier National Park, including quizzes, photo galleriess and trip planners, visit the National Geographic Guide to Glacier.
