The Elephants of Scotland
Elephants lumber behind stone Scottish cottages. A cheetah races along the shores of a loch. A herd of water buffalo graze among Celtic crosses in a hilltop cemetery. London-based photographer George Logan has brought the impossible to life in Translocation, a new photography book that fuses Logan’s shots of African wildlife into his dramatic takes of the Scottish countryside.
Logan, a gold medal winner at the Association of Photographers
Awards, traveled to such locations as South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, and Botswana to photograph his subjects in their natural habitats before combining them with shots of his native Scotland, including the Isle of Skye.
The idea for the book was inspired by Logan’s own childhood fantasies of exotic animals being part of his familiar surroundings.
Sales of the book will benefit the Born Free Foundation, an international wildlife charity that works to protect threatened species across the globe. The funds will go towards building Born Free’s new wildlife rescue, conservation and education center in Ethiopia. Hewlett Packard Indigo
agreed to print the book for free as a showcase for their premium digital printing capabilities, allowing 100 percent of sales profits to go to Born Free.
