Taken from National Geographic’s archives, this unpublished 1943 photo of a crowded streetcar in Rio de Janeiro makes all other commutes look like a joyride.
Travel trivia: Perhaps unsurprisingly, Brazil’s historic streetcar service was suspended in 2011, after one of the trolleys derailed.
