Nestled along the Rhone River and only a quick 2.5-hour train ride from Paris, Avignon is the perfect city to begin your journey through Provence, one of France's most sought-after regions. While the main attraction of Avignon is the papal palace towering over the town, there is plenty of history, art, and theater to appreciate in this prosperous city.
