Why It's Worth It
Among European capitals, Prague boasts the continent’s best-preserved historic center, with a core of stately 14th-century buildings dating from those brief, heady days when the city served as the capital of the then Holy Roman Empire. The influx of tourism since the fall of communism in 1989 lent a much needed jolt of electricity, helping to create today’s highly infectious mix of medieval and hyper-modern. —Mark Baker
