Wanderlust has driven the imagination of mankind for centuries. Discovering new cultures and locales will never cease to be a fascinating experience.

The difference between now and even just a century ago, though, is that travel has become much more accessible thanks to the spread of air travel. Now, instead of having to hear second-hand stories of memorable journeys abroad, many of us now have the opportunity to take part in uncharted adventures of our own.

This ease of access has posed new conundrums for travelers. Chiefly among them is the fact that unique experiences are becoming rarer, since so much of the globe has been traversed. It’s just simpler to reach the faraway places we’ve dreamed of.

However, this doesn’t mean that it’s impossible to take part in unique adventures. There are still ways to take in incomparable views and participate in unparalleled activities that will forever be etched in your memory.

It’s not just easier. Going on these trips has now also become a more enjoyable experience, thanks to airlines like Singapore Airlines. Travelers can look forward to enjoying world class service 30,000 feet in the air thanks to a team of helpful and knowledgeable cabin crew. It’s much more enticing to travel when one knows that they are being well taken care of, allowing them to focus on enjoying their adventures ahead.

A great example of such an adventure is the National Geographic Switzerland expedition. It takes participants to some of Europe’s best-known cities and attractions but allows them the unique opportunity to travel alongside National Geographic experts. Depending on the time of year, it could mean exploring a glacier with a geologist, or sailing down Lake Como with a published travel author.

Here are a couple of the interesting things that travelers will see while on the expedition.

Going beyond Zurich

Zurich is Switzerland’s largest city, and its financial and cultural hub. It’s home to centuries-old churches and historical monuments, along with a host of famous museums such as the Kunsthaus Zürich.

This leg of the expedition also affords travelers the chance to explore a glacier. Zurich is a few hours away by train to the town of Zermatt, which is an access point to the famed Glacier Paradise.

Taking in Lake Como

After travelling through the mountains and the cold, one would be forgiven for starting to dream about warmer sun-kissed climates. Fortunately, that’s exactly where the tail-end of the expedition takes its participants.

The last few days of the expedition involves going on relaxing cruises around the lakeside towns surrounding Lake Como, where tourists have a chance to see ancient monasteries, cathedrals, and the famed locations like the Teatro Sociale before enjoying the local food and wine.

There aren’t many places in the world that are as tranquil as Lake Como. Sailing along its shores and taking in all of the colorful villages is an experience that can never be forgotten.

The trip then ends in Milan. While known as one of the world’s most important fashion centers, there are also plenty of gems for intrepid explores to discover in Milan, like the Via Terraggio Garden, a fairly well-hidden public garden that opened its gates in 2010 after being closed for 70 years.

Go on your own adventure

Singapore Airlines is looking to help one lucky adventurer go on their own uncharted adventure. The winner of the contest will join a National Geographic Switzerland expedition, and they will be accompanied by a National Geographic expert who will share a unique perspective during the trip.
