Why It's Worth It

The mere fact that Washington, D.C., is the capital of the United States makes it a powerful and appealing destination. Adding to that is the opportunity to see dozens of iconic memorials, monuments, and museums – most of which are free to visit. Take a step off the well-worn tourist track, and D.C. will reward you with diverse and historic neighborhoods, and an invigorated dining scene that’s earning international acclaim. —Troy Petenbrink
