“Some of the most cherished memories I have are those of spending time with my family on adventures, largely exclusive journeys into the bush”
Stefan Winterboer is often described as one of the best in the business when it comes to field guides and guiding! Born in Pretoria, South Africa, Stefan completed high school and decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. However, he soon realized that a life underground was not for him.
Starting as a field guide in 1999, at the world famous Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, Stefan grew from strength to strength. He ended up in a rare combined managerial position including overseeing the entire safari department and management of their lodges at the time.
In 2007 Stefan was offered a senior field guiding position at Singita Private Game Reserves at their lodges in the Kruger National Park.
Singita has been voted as the best hotel in the world and is widely considered as the world’s premiere Safari Company. He, along with two others, pioneered Singita’s Professional Guide Portfolio. This resulted in Stefan being recognized as one of Singita’s best and most knowledgeable guides.
Besides his love for the bush, Stefan is also trained in Muay Thai, a martial art originating in Thailand. He insists he “is not particularly gifted at it,” although he loves the sport.
