Escape into the past through these 30 photos from the Nat Geo archives

It's human nature to want to connect with those around you. But as the pandemic disrupted lives around the world, we found ourselves isolated for months on end. Though we've learned to adapt without being physically together, it's hard not to long for for those in-person gatherings with loved ones and friends.

The photos I selected last month reminded me of those moments: a train ride with the family to visit New York City, sitting on the hood of a car listening to music in Puerto Rico, or getting a drink and catching up with friends at the local pub in Scotland.

Here's hoping 2022 brings back some of what we've missed.
