Instants: Fresh Faces, from Brazil to Detroit
We are always adding new photographers to the National Geographic family. Photographer Wayne Lawrence, who spoke at the National Geographic Photo Seminar in January, is a fresh face. Lawrence is best known for capturing the spirit and style of Orchard Beach through glowing portraits of the people who relax along the “Bronx Rivera.”
Lawrence spent the summer in Brazil photographing the city of Rio de Janiero during the World Cup. Since then, he has started a project for National Geographic magazine making portraits of Detroit’s residents. If the portraits are anything like Lawrence’s Orchard Beach photographs, they’re bound to be not only beautiful but intriguing.
