Duck Farm Workers
In Bali, ducks work side-by-side with farmers to grow rice," writes Tom Schifanella of his image. During the growing season, they eat invasive duckweed; after harvest, they clean up and fertilize the paddies.
What if you could change the world for the better? People are doing it every day in ways both big and small.
National Geographic's Your Shot asked its members to capture in pictures the countless ways people are turning bright ideas into real-world innovation.
The assignment resulted in more than 3,000 images that often appear simple on the surface, but actually reveal sheer ingenuity, both time-worn and boldly experimental.
"Many of the submissions made me stop and say, Why didn’t I think of that? or I‘m stealing this idea!" says Your Shot Director Monica Corcoran, who curated this gallery, in a note to the participants. "If there was a recurring theme in the submissions, it was that sometimes the simplest ideas are the smartest."
